The use of a mono- or dicyclic carboxylic or heterocyclic carboxylic acid ester or amide (I) of an alcohol or amine contg. ring N, as free base or as acid addn. or quat. ammonium salt, as 5-HT3 antagonists is new. Compsns. contg. (I) are used to treat serotonium-induced gastrointestinal disturbances. Esters of endo-9-methyl-9-aza -bicyclo(3,3,1)non-3-ol with benzo (b) thiophen-3-yl carboxylic acid (as hydrochloride) or 5-fluoro-1-methylindol-3-yl carboxylic aci (ashydrogen maleate) are new.
