Aq. coating agents (I) based on polyacrylate resins contg. air-drying unsatd. fatty acid residues and tert. ammonium gps. are claimed. (B) more specifically, (I) contains (B1) water-sol., air-drying binder contg. (i) polyacrylate of mol. wt. more than 1000, contg. 5-40 wt. % chemically incorporated drying fatty acids (calculated as RCOO-, where R = hydrocarbon residue of drying fatty acid (ii) 50-200 milliequiv. chemically incorporated ammonium gps. per 100 g solids (B2) opt. conventional additives and auxiliaries are claimed. (I) prepd. by (1) addn. reaction of epoxide gp.-contg. polyacrylate (II) of epoxide gp. equiv. wt. 200-1300 with drying fatty acid, opt. as mixt. with nondrying fatty acid, to form ester (2) partial or complete addn. reaction of residual epoxide gps. in prod. from (1) with sec. monoamine (3) partial or complete neutralisation of prod. from 82) by an organic carboxylic acid with simultaneous or subsequent soln. in water, wherein conventional additives and auxiliaries are incorporated at any stage during prepn. of aq. soln. from 83) or subsequently, and types and proportions of starting materials are chosen so that the binder dissolved in water is a (B1).
