The invention relates to a sign or a warning panel, in particular for temporary erection during roadworks and similar time-limited applications. More specifically, the sign or warning panel is of the type in which the panel (the sign plate) 1 is erected on a stand 4 made of usually round or rectangular tube which is in turn arranged in a movable foot 5 adapted thereto or is mounted in another appropriate manner. The sign according to the invention is characterized in that a set of stand fittings is mounted firmly on the rear side of the panel. In a preferred embodiment, this set consists of two separate fittings 2, 3 which are positioned at a distance one above the other and which each consist of a plane, plate-shaped piece of rubber 8 which, with a bottom part 8a, is fastened flat in relation to the panel 1 in contact with the latter and, with a top part 8b, can be bent backwards away from the panel. The top, flexible part of the plate-shaped piece of rubber is provided with a round or rectangular cutout 10, the size and shape of which correspond approximately to the cross-sectional profile of the stand 4, but preferably slightly oversized in relation thereto. With the relevant part of the rubber plate bent out at an angle from the panel, the cutout can surround the stand, the two fittings then, on the one hand as a result of their elastic grip around the stand and on the other hand as a result of the angled position in relation to the latter, producing a self-reinforcing clamping action or locking action against displacement further downwards along the stand. The clamping action is overcome when, on demounting of the sign, the panel is acted on so as to be displaced upwards along the stand. Erection and dismantling of the signs can be effected in a very simple, easy and rapid manner entirely without using tools and loose fitting parts. The signs are always ready for use. The fact that the fittings lie flat in relation to the rear side of the panel in the unused state means that the panels can be stacked on one another or placed next to one another without taking up an unnecessarily large amount of space and without the risk of the panels being scratched. Scratches and clamping marks caused by hard clamping fittings are avoided, as a result of which the life of the panels is extended.
