METHOD OF FORMING DECORATIVE TRIM STRIPS

There is disclosed a method of forming an elongated decorative trim strip (10) of thermoplastic material with an end of the strip having a desired shape of non-constant cross-section in planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip, which method comprises providing an extruded length (20) of thermoplastic material of a length substantially equal to the desired length of the decorative trim strip, the extruded length having a first longitudinally extending surface (24) as a front show face and a second longitudinally extending surface (26) opposite the first surface (24) as a back mounting surface. At an end portion of the extruded length (20), material is removed inwardly from the second surface (26) to create a cavity (30) behind the first surface (24) while leaving the show face (24) generally undisturbed. Thereafter, the end portion of the extruded length with the cavity (30) formed therein is enclosed in a mould chamber (38) with an interior surface having the desired end shape and thermoplastic material is injected into the formed cavity to fill the cavity (30) and force the show face of the enclosed end portion into engagement with the interior surface of the mould (38).
