The present invention relates to a device comprising two cooled parallel rollers 1, which have been placed one against the other in such a way that they between themselves delimit a casting gap 2 for molten metal 3, two laterally situated locking plates 4 intended for this casting gap and placed on the ends of the rollers, and an electromagnetic inductor 6,8, arranged in connection with each plate 4, for inductive heating of the liquid metal band in the casting gap, each of the locking plates 4 being made of metal of a thickness e less than or equal to the depth of penetration of the magnetic field generated by the inductor 6,8, the frequency of this magnetic field being adjusted for this purpose to a suitably low value as a function of the electrical conductivity of the metal material in the plates 4. The invention makes it possible to use fairly thin plates 4 in comparison with previously used plates and prevents total solidification of the liquid metal 3 which comes into contact with the plates 4. <IMAGE>
