PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject fiber, excellent in compressive strength and elastic modulus and useful as a primary structural material, etc., for aircraft by exposing acrylic carbon fiber having a prescribed value or above of tensile strength to radiation under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber having 15-75Angstrom crystal size (Lc) of carbon net planes measured by a wide angle X-ray diffractometry and a single fiber compressive strength sigmacf(GPa) according to the loop method satisfying sigmacfSi10.78-0.1176XLc and the surface layer having the crystallinity equal to or higher than that of the fiber central part is obtained by exposing acrylic carbon fiber having >=2GPa tensile strength to radiation such as electron beams having 100keV to 10MeV irradiation energy and >=300Mrad irradiation dose. |
