The present invention relates to a process for displaying the thickness distribution of foils which can be wound into rolls and produced on calender and extrusion machines, in which the foil drawn of the calender or extruder transversely to the transport direction passes a measuring head and the thickness of the foil is measured preferably in steps, the thickness deviation is transmitted via a transmission protocol from the thickness measuring device to a computer and displayed in colour on a monitor. According to the invention the thickness variations are divided into steps, a colour and brightness is allocated to each step and the colour values are displayed on the colour monitor as discrete hues, regions lying between the measured lines being extrapolated to provide a closed-surface colour mosaic on the screen.
