PURPOSE: To enable range piston assembly to be protectively enclosed by an auxiliary section housing. CONSTITUTION: An auxiliary change gear section 14 is provided with the range piston assembly 48 for selectively coupling a splitter gear 78 or a splitter range gear 62 to an input shaft. The assembly 48 features a pair of tandem fluid chambers 66 and 68. Piston heads 70, 72 connected to a common piston rod 74 are provided to move a range clutch assembly between a first position and a second position by introducing a pressure fluid simultaneously into each piston head chamber, here the diameter of the fluid chamber is made smaller than the diameters of the piston chambers to obtain the force required to move the range clutch assembly, and to protectively enclose the range piston assembly 48 in the auxiliary housing 50. |
