PRODUCTION OF FORMED PRODUCT FROM QUARTZ BASED GLASS

PURPOSE:To produce a good-quality formed product of quartz based glass free from impurities by granulating a quartz based glass powder material so as to readily form a glass formed product under pressure without using an organic binder and producing the glass formed product from a high-purity glass powder material. CONSTITUTION:A quartz based glass powder material 22 is packed in a forming mold 12 having shape of a vessel installed in the interior of a pressure device 10 and external pressure is applied to the quartz-based glass powder material 22 by pressurizing the interior of the pressure device 10 and the formed material is sintered to produce the objective formed product of quartz-based glass. As the quartz-based glass powder material 22, powder obtained by forming a slurry consisting of quartz based glass powder and a component at least containing water and having pH <=10 and drying and powdering the slurry at <=250 deg.C or spray-drying the slurry at <=250 deg.C or particles obtained by granulating the resultant powder are used.
