The tool or drill (14) has a shank (13) that fits into the bore (15) of the toolholder sleeve (11). Opening onto the end face of the shank (13) are two identical and diametrically opposite driving slots (19) whose load carrying flanks (20) are also diametrically opposite. The driving slots are engaged by two rectangular section keys (21) in the toolholder sleeve. At the bottom of the driving slots is an axial groove (23) into which protrudes a feeler pin (22) forming part of a system for reading coded-tooling information. Between the driving slots are two closed end locking slots (16) which retain the tool in conjunction with locking balls (17). The locking slots are offset from the diametrically opposite position by angle alpha and have cross-sections of different size. ADVANTAGE - Tool has unique angular position, thereby permitting coded tooling information to be carried. Tool remains unweakened.
