The method involves measuring the angles from two mines (FVM1,FVM2) to the target (Z) using microphones (M1-M3) and the separation distance of the mines using transmitter/receiver devices and a triangulation method. Each mine has a means of communication with the others to initiate a sound transmission. The sound transition time is used to determine the separation of the mines. The transition time is measured in both directions to enable compensation of wind effects. A communication line between mines is present consisting of HF, fibre-optic or wire connection. ADVANTAGE - Enables mines to passively measure distance to target very accurately.
