Alignment apparatus (10) comprises an upper portion (11) and a lower portion (12). The upper portion (11) has a taper (14) arranged to be received in a chuck of a machine tool. The lower portion (12) has a location instrument (15) arranged in use to be aligned with a desired reference point on a work piece (not shown). The upper and lower portions (11 and 12) respectively are arranged to move relative to each other along two perpendicular axes (not shown). When the location instrument (15) is aligned with the desired reference point, the chuck of the machine tool (not shown) is brought into alignment with the reference point by aligning the upper and lower portions (11 and 12). When alignment is achieved digital displays (20 and 21) give a zero reading. |
