An alkali earth sulphide yellow fluorescent material ((Ca1- x-y Srx Mgy)S:Mn,Ce; 0 <= y <= 1; 0 <= y <= 0) is produced by (a) mixing the compsn. composed of calciun carbonate (CaCO3), strontium carbonate (SrCO3), magnesium sulphate (MgSO4), manganese carbonate (MnCO3) and cerium oxide (CeO2) with NH4Cl or (NH4)2HPO4 as a flux, (b) firing the mixt. in the alumina tray of H2S atmosphere at 1000-1200 deg.C for 2-4 hr, and cooling it, and (c) removing the residual flux and the by-product with a pure water and a hydrochloric acid. The fluorescent material for CRT having 560-590 nm wavelength- main peak has a good luminescent property.
