摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the brightness of the image on a screen, making use of the light from a light source to the utmost, even if the numerical aperture of the pigment of a liquid crystal panel is small by crossing the longitudinal direction of the pillared lens provided at the surface of each plate-shaped optical element and the longitudinal direction of the pillared lens provided at the rear at right angles. CONSTITUTION:In close vicinity to a liquid crystal panel LCP, a first plate-shaped optical element POD 1, which converges parallel beams into a lattice shape, corresponding to pigments OP, is provided on the light source side of a liquid crystal panel LCP, and a second plate-shaped optical element POD2, which makes each group of beams converged into a lattice shape into parallel beams again, is arranged on the opposite side to the light source of the liquid crystal panel LCP, and pillared lenses are arranged, respectively, on both obverse and reverse sides of at least either of each first and second plate-shaped optical element. Besides, the longitudinal direction of the pillared lens provided at the surface of each plate-shaped optical element and the longitudinal direction of the pillared lens provided at the rear cross at right angles. Accordingly, the contrasts between the openings of the liquid crystal panel and the shield parts between them become hard to appear on a screen, so a natural image can be gotten.
