The device comprises wearing elements (4) in the form of angles 2 - 5 mm thick and 20 - 40 mm long, shaped to suit the vanes (2) of the screw and tapering towards the screw axis (3), attached to the vanes of the separator screw. The wearing elements are pref. made of a hard metal or ceramic material, and are attached to the screw using an adhesive. A metallic reinforcing plate (10) is at the end of the screw in the pressing region (9). Used wearing elements are removed from the screw and replaced. For adjusting the distance of the wearing elements from the screw axis in the required tolerance, a special fixture is used in which the screw is held with the axis vertical and is rotated past a gauging strip. The gauging strip is adjusted perpendicular to the screw axis using micrometer dial gauges and is clamped in position. Clamps are pref. used to hold the wearing elements in place while the adhesive hardens. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in liq./solid sepn. of abrasive suspensions e.g. communal waste, cattle slurry contg. sand, residual material from waste paper processing etc.. Press screws are easily and cheaply refurbished adjacent to the places of use.
