The coils of each set (30) are formed by rotation of a template (12) while the parallel wires are drawn out of a stationary feeder (18) in the direction of the periphery of the template. The completed set is transferred to a former (14) which can be brought into a predetermined angular relationship with the template, and which has enough space for all or most of the sets of coils comprising a stator or rotor winding. ADVANTAGE - A complete phase can be formed with fewer transfer steps, and individual sets of coils can be assembled together on the former with more room for connections.
