The holding members (12a,12b) hinge to and from each other on a common spindle (13), having overlapping hook portions (14a,14b). A locking mechanism released by the weight of the load prevents them hinging apart. Each member is coupled by a supporting rope (18a,18b) to the parachute (21), and the mechanism is released by a rip cord (22) between it and the latter, and which is shorter than the supporting ropes. These ropes so engage with the members that under the weight of the load they hold them shut and prevent opening. The members can intersect in a scissor pattern at the spindle and can have actuating arms (17a,17b) with which the supporting ropes engage. USE/ADVANTAGE - Self-releasing fastener for load to parachute remains safely shut under load. |
