Device for the storage and treatment of urban waste, which contains a shredder (23) or crusher intended to render the waste into small particles. These are put on a conveyor belt (25) feeding a device which sorts by Foucault current from permanent magnets, placed in a rotor driven at great speed. In the middle of the waste this generates a Foucault current inducing a secondary magnetic field which reacts with the magnetic field of the rotor and therefore gives the material different trajectories according to its nature (ferrous or non-ferrous). The conveyor belt is mounted on two drums, one driven and the other acting as a pulley. The second drum contains a rotor with rare earth permanent magnets, of a type to generate a Foucault current. This ejects the waste particles according to whether they are ferrous, non-ferrous or non-metallic, into containers (7), (7') and (7") respectively. Given the speed of the belt, the Foucault current generated and the characteristics of the waste elements, an adequate separation is achieved. Downstream of the conveyor belt and the shredder are three chutes arranged perpendicular to the axis of the belt and at different heights so the furthest away is the highest. Non-ferrous elements (such as aluminium) are ejected towards container (7), corresponding to a first chute (26); non-metallic elements (such as paper) free fall towards container (7') corresponding to a second chute (26') and ferrous elements are stuck to the conveyor belt by the magnetic field until they reach the area where the magnetic field no longer has influence. The ferrous elements therefore fall into container (7") corresponding to the third chute (26"). USE/ADVANTAGE - The sorting and compaction of urban waste products, for use as a replacement for public litter bins. This device allows the practical and economic sorting of waste for recycling without storage in open bins (thus reducing fire risks), or transport to sorting depots.
