The method involves using an optoelectronic transmitter (7) sending infrared or visible signals to a receiver (11) in the form of a sequence of commands governing specific appts. functions for which a station memory is programmed. The format and sequence are held in a data bank of a control unit (4) which can be expanded to new codes by means of an optoelectronic receiver (1) forwarding the signals transmitted from any infrared remote control unit (10) for processing and long-term storage. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. with TV, satellite or sound broadcast receiver or video recorder tuner. Appts. of any mfr. and type can be programmed automatically without any special interface.
