<p>PURPOSE:To provide the picture coding method and the picture coder increasing the ratio of a reference frame number without deteriorating picture quality concerning the picture coding method and the picture coder used for compressing a digital picture and sending and recording the picture. CONSTITUTION:In a method in which an interlace picture is divided into blocks comprising plural picture elements close to each other and a reference frame and a prediction frame are subjected to coding processing for each block, a reference frame 1 is separated into two field pictures 2, 3, field coding processing is implemented in each field for each block, prediction frames 4, 5 are adaptively divided into blocks including both fields or any of the fields only, coding processing is implemented for each block, the effect of an error in the reference frame picture is reduced without deterioration of picture quality and the frame picture is quickly retrieved.</p> |
