14 A track tamping machine (1) for tamping switches and crossings of a track has a machine frame (3), supported on on- track undercarriages, with a track lifting and lining unit provided on the said machine frame between the undercarriages and a tamping component (12) with tamping tools (19) which may be squeezed and set vibrating by means of drives (21). The said tamping tools are arranged on a tool carrier (20) which is connected to a tool frame (23) for vertical adjustment by way of vertical guides (22), and the tool frame (23) is designed so as to be adjustable with respect to the machine frame (3) in the transverse direction of the track. An auxiliary lifting device (14), having a vertically adjustable lifting tool (38), for lifting a rail length (35) of a switch, located laterally adjacent to the machine (1), is secured to the tool frame (23) of the transversely adjustable tamping component (12) for vertical adjustment by means of a lifting drive (13).
