摘要 PURPOSE:To form the liquid crystal display device of an STN type, etc., which is compensated in optical rotatory power and double refractiveness and is excellent in the angle of film by obtaining a polarizing plate which can compensate the optical rotatory power and is thin and light. CONSTITUTION:This polarizing plate is constituted by having an optical rotatory layer 1 consisting of a liquid crystalline polymer subjected to twisted nematic orientation on one side of a polarizing film 22 and forming this optical rotatory layer directly on the orientation treated surface formed by subjecting the surface of the transparent protective layer 21 to be installed to the polarizing plate to a rubbing treatment. This liquid crystal display device is constituted by laminating the polarizing plate via a double refractive film on the double refractive liquid crystal cell. Then, the polarizing plate of a thin type with which the optical rotatory power and double refractiveness can be arbitrarily set is easily obtd. The liquid crystal display device which has excellent resillience and handling property, facilitates the formation of a large-area body and has the excellent degree of attaining prevention of coloration and contrast is obtd.
