Computer-controlled machining unit for profiles - has drill bits replaceable by milling tools

A unit for machining profiles, esp. heavy steel profiles, has a machine frame with entry and exit roller conveyors, a feed unit with an advancing drive and an advance measuring device, one or more vertically adjustable drills, one or more horizontally adjustable drills, and a controller which effects drilling control and feed control during drilling, and which is computer programmable by drilling operation software. The novelty is that (a) at least one of the drills (7) also functions as a milling machine and has a bit (8) replaceable by a milling tool (12); (b) the computer (10) of the controller (9) is also programmable by milling operation software; and (c) the controller (9) also effects milling control and feed control during milling. The unit may also have one or more flame cutters. The drill bits (8) and the milling tools (12) are automatically exchangeable. The unit may include a sawing machine and one or more flame cutters, together with associated computer software. ADVANTAGE - The unit performs both drilling and milling of heavy steel profiles, useful for erection of steel building constructions.
