The window or door latching device has a handle (1) with a square bore fitting onto a square-section shaft (5). There is a bearing sleeve (2) which fits onto the shaft and is spring-loaded (11) away from the handle. A flange (12) on the end of the bearing sleeve has four equispaced axial projections (13) engaging corresponding grooves (14) in a locking actuating element (6) in a housing (7) in the door or window frame. A projection (8) on the end of the shaft (5) engages in a radial bore (9) in the locking actuating element to prevent the handle being pulled out of the frame.
