Treatment of suspensions, esp. sludges, with additives comprises the continuously controllable admixture and homogeneous distribution of at least one organic additive (I). (I) is pref. sawdust with a particle size of 0.5 - 1.5 mm, and is added and mixed into the suspension while the suspension is being conveyed. ADVANTAGE - Addn. of small amts. of (I) to sewage sludge facilitates subsequent dewatering and increases the solids content and shear strength of the dewatered sludge. The dewatered sludge may be composted, burned or applied to agricultural land.
