PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PURPOSE:To provide a process for the production of an optical fiber preform effective for eliminating the oscillation of the optical fiber preform caused by intermittent pulling and capable of preventing the generation of a part having nonuniform deposition density. CONSTITUTION:Glass soot synthesized in the flame of a burner 2 is deposited on the lower end of a seed rod 1 to form a porous optical fiber preform 4. The seed rod is continuously pulled up in the course of the deposition process. A light projector 5 and a light receptor 7 are placed at the level of the lower end of the optical fiber preform 4 and the pull-up speed of the seed rod 1 is controlled by comparing the present light transmission and shielding state with that of the precedent state.
