PICTURE DISPLAY DEVICE

摘要

PURPOSE: To provide an image display device provided with a liquid crystal cell composed of optically anisotropic additional high polymer elements capable of supplying an optical property changed corresponding to a desired pattern. CONSTITUTION: For a super-twisted nematic liquid crystal display cell, glass plates 1 and 5 covered with a driving electrode 26 are provided, an electrode layer 2 on the plate 1 is covered with an oriented layer 3 and adjacent molecules in a liquid crystal 10 between the plates are aligned in a certain desirable direction by the oriented layer 3. The plate 5 is provided with the oriented layer 7 on the surface facing the liquid crystal and the intermediate layer 9 of an optically anisotropic oriented photosensitive polymer is arranged between the layer 7 and the electrode layer 6. To the liquid crystal cell, an input plane polarizer 4 and an output plane polarizer 8 arranged crosswise to the input polarizer are incorporated. Non-polarized light coming from a light source 11 is plane polarized by the polarizer 4. The output polarizer 8 sends the part 13 of the light vibrating parallelly to a polarization direction to an observer 14.
