The software for a computer system is organised in three groups, namely the application programs, the operating system and the software drivers for peripherals. Of these, the operating system for use in a real-time multi-tasking mode has a task management function and an operating system supervisory function. The communication between the different function groups is determined by a number of signals (S1-S11). These control the points at which different operations are performed. USE/ADVANTAGE - For system having limited number of tasks, eg MICROS - Micro Real-time Operating system. Simple form. Requires few operations.
