PURPOSE: To automatically install an expander ring into a circumferential groove in a piston ring. CONSTITUTION: A piston ring and an expander ring are disposed respectively in a magazine and discharged therefrom respectively. The discharged piston ring 1 is positioned at the discharge end of the magazine 3 for the expander ring so as to be aligned to an axis in the longitudinal direction of the magazine 3, and expanded by a expander device 7. The expander ring 2 discharged from the magazine 3 for the expander ring enters the piston ring 1 expanded in the axial direction of the magazine 3 and is pushed to the surface of a circumferential groove 8. Expanding of the piston ring 1 is released, thus it is possible to install the expander ring 2 automatically on the piston ring 1.
