<p>PURPOSE:To simply form an embossed character or symbol on a card with electronic components with a low cost by thermally shrinking a heat-shrinkable tape in response to a background dot pattern signal applied to a thermal head to form the character.symbol. CONSTITUTION:A character generator 4 outputs dot character pattern data in response to character data input to a data input unit 3, and a pattern inverter 5 inverts dots and outputs a background dot pattern. A driver 6 generates a drive signal for driving a heat generating element of a thermal head 7 corresponding thereto. The element is heated, heat is transferred to a heat-shrinkable tape 2, and a part in contact with the element is shrinked to form a recess. When the element is heated while spacing the head 7 in a direction of an arrow A, an overall background part is continuously shrinked, and character data to be desirably embossed is formed as an embossed character.</p> |
