A warning system for a vehicle has a driving condition decision unit which decides if the vehicle is in a dangerous state or not, a danger recognition unit which decides if the driver is aware of the danger, if it exists, and a danger avoidance unit which undertakes the warning actions if he/she is unaware. There are monitoring systems for the vehicle, for the environment and for the driver. The first two of these feed input into the driving condition decision unit and the last two feed input into the danger recognition unit. The driver monitoring system includes sensors for line of sight, blinking, blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature.
