PURPOSE:To make the brightness of the liquid crystal display device high and to reduce the size and power consumption accompanying the increase in the brightness by efficiently utilizing light made incident on a liquid crystal panel part. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal display panel 7 formed by inserting and holding a liquid crystal material 5 between glass thin plates 2a and 2b, has a liquid crystal display panel 7 formed by inserting and holding a liquid crystal material 5 between glass thin plates 2a and 2b having light reflecting films 8a at positions on the glass thin plates corresponding to a non-display part of pixels constituting a display and further inserting and holding the glass plates 2a and 2b between polarizing plates 6, and a surface lighting device 12 having a light reflecting film formed at a position on a light emission plate corresponding to the non-display part of the liquid crystal display panel 7 which has the light reflecting films at the positions on the polarizing plates corresponding to the non-display part of pixels constituting the display and allows the polarizing plates 6 to have both a polarizing function part and the light reflection part; and the light reflecting films are formed of conductors and connected to a ground potential. |
