摘要 PURPOSE:To make it possible to progress to the ensuing stage without waiting for solidification of an adhesive without impairing optical fiber characteristics and to work the end face of the optical fiber cord with good working efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A coating material 2 at the end of the fiber cord 1 is removed to expose a coated fiber 3. The through-hole 5 of a mouthpiece 4 consists of a large-bore part and a small-bore part. An adhesive 9 is applied to the inside surface of the through-hole or the coated optical fiber. The optical fiber cord is inserted from an insertion port. The projecting coated optical fiber is cut. The front end port and a mirror-finished surface plate are brought into tight contact with each other and the front end of the coated optical fiber at the front end port is pressurized and heated by the mirror-finished surface plate 12, by which the front end is melted. The coated optical fiber expands into the taper. The end face of the coated optical fiber is solidified by cooling the mirror-finished surface plate, by which the mirror-finished surface is transferred to the end face 14 of the coated optical fiber.
