摘要 PURPOSE:To control the code quantity of the variable length code of a picture so as to be within a definite memory through the pass of one time by controlling the encoding condition of an encoding means on the basis of reference code quantity obtained by an arithmetic means. CONSTITUTION:A code quantity control part 34 receives the information of picture size from an I/O 32, and controls the code quantity so as to be settled within a definite value by setting the compression ratio of a target. A compression processing part 35 inputs the picture information stored in a buffer 33, and variablelength-encodes it by reducing the redundancy of the picture. The memory 36 is a block to store a code from the compression processing part 35, and this memory is constituted so as to be of memory capacity smaller than the portion of the maximum output size of a printer. Then, an arithmetic part 11 operates the reference code quantity on the basis of the inputted picture information, and the control part 34 controls the encoding condition of the encoding means on the basis of the reference code quantity obtained by the arithmetic part 11. Accordingly, the code quantity of the variable length code of the picture is controlled so as to be within the definite memory, and the compression processing to meet the deviation of the picture can be executed.
