TAPE CASSETTE AND RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To read an information displayed by electric information detection terminals by a detection means common to large and small tape cassettes in a recording and reproducing device which is provided with electric information detection terminals and selectively uses tape cassettes that have larger and smaller sizes used for common recording and reproducing device. CONSTITUTION:Locations of electric information detection terminals 4a to 4d and 14a to 14d are placed at an equal distance from one of the outer side surface of cassette cases 2 and 12. A connector 24 which contacts with electric information detection terminals provided on a tape cassette reads an electric information and a detection switch 24 which detects erroneous erasing preventing elements 8 and 18 are integrally provided on a detection block. The block is moved to the position corresponding a tape cassette mounted by discriminating the larger or the smaller size of the tape cassette which is installed on the block.
