PURPOSE:To oxidize and decompose halogen-contg. organic matter, such as methyl bromide at a low temperature while preventing the formation of carbon monoxide by using a catalyst contg. copper substituted X-type zeolite and platinum compounds. CONSTITUTION:Waste gas contg. halogen-contg. organic matter, such as methyl bromide is oxidized and decomposed in the presence of a catalyst contg. copper substituted X-type zeolite and platinum compounds. As the copper substituted X-type zeolite the well-known one is used and the substitution ration of metal ions in X-type zeolite by copper ions is preferably to be >=10%. As platinum compounds the various kinds of them are used and platinum oxide is given as the particularly preferable one. The ratio of the platinum compounds to the copper substituted X-type zeolite is preferably about 0.01-10wt.%. Consequently oxidizing decomposition is performed at the low temperature and since trace or no carbon monoxide is formed, post treatment by a carbon monoxide exchanging catalyst, etc., is not required and equipment is sharply simplified. |
