The insert device for pushing the stack of plates into the sawing machine has a suction unit (5) with preferably two suction members (2,2') set one behind the other in the plate advance direction A. The individual suction elements of the successive members are associated with each other in the feed direction. The insert device can be designed as a single loading carriage (1) supporting the suction members and associated feed arm (3) and movable parallel to the plate plane on corresponding support devices (6). USE/ADVANTAGE- For handling thin plates which are collected into stacks prior to cutting. Using the suction members it is possible to separate and count and accurately stack the required umber.
