PURPOSE:To reduce the area of mechanism for the magnetic recording/ reproducing device using a tape cassette. CONSTITUTION:A tape cassette base 9 for mounting the tape cassette 6 and a rotary cylinder 4 arranged around a take-up reel shaft on the upper or lower surface side of the mounted tape cassette 6 also having the axial direction nearly coincident with that of the cassette reel are provided. The magnetic recording/reproducing device is constituted further in such a manner that a tape guide member 2 drawing out the magnetic tape 1 from the tape cassette 6 to wind it spirally to the rotary cylinder 4 by a specified angle and a driving means 3 driving the magnetic tape 1 in the longitudinal direction of tape on the upper or lower surface side of the tape cassette 6 arranged with the rotary cylinder 4 are provided.
