Ultrasonic transducer with impedance matching surface layer

The ultrasonic transducer has a porous aerosol gel layer applied to its surface, for acting as an acoustic impedance matching layer. The free surface of the aerosol gel layer is covered by a thin protective coating, e.g. a lacquer coating with a thickness of between 10 and 100 microns. Pref. the aerosol gel layer comprises a mixture of methanol, TMOS, MeTMOS and 0.1nNH4OH. The protective coating pref. comprises a polyurethane lacquer applied via a spin coating technique.
