<p>PURPOSE:To easily house the terminal of a multi-protocol constitution in a packet switching network. CONSTITUTION:A terminal 102 preliminarily requests the identifier of its own network protocol and a network address to be used for the protocol to a directly connected switchboard 10, and the translation table of those identifier and network address into a port address indicating the physical position of a switchboard port is prepared in the switchboard. A routing table between ports is described by the physical port address. At the time of issuing a signaling packet for requesting the opening of a communication line, the terminal 102 designates the opposite terminal 101 by the network address. The routing control part of the switchboard 10 converts the address into the port address by using the translation table, retrieves the routing table, and decides an output port. The procedure is repeated by the switchboard 20, and the packet is transferred to the objective terminal 101.</p> |
