<p>PURPOSE: To provide an electromagnetic clutch driven steerable axle for a four-wheel drive vehicle for preventing skidding of wheels. CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic clutch driven steerable drive axle system for a four-wheel drive vehicle comprising a rotary power source, a driven front axle 36, a mechanical rear axle 40 converting rotary power from the power source into tractive power for rear wheels 10 and 12, a steering mechanism connected to the rear wheels 10 and 12, an electromagnetic clutch 52 coupled between the power source and the mechanical rear axle 40, and a transducer which provides input representative of the turning and/or tractive power status of a mower to a microprocessor 64.</p> |
