The invention relates to a method and to a device for recording cop carriers rotating in a transport system of a winding machine. Arranged in the region of a stand-by position (9) adjacent to the unwinding point (8) of a winding station (1) is a sensor device (41) which is connected directly to the winding-station electronics (18). The sensor device (41) is an integral part of, for example, a spinning-station identification device and has a series oscillation circuit I. This series oscillation circuit I is connected to a reference oscillation circuit II. The voltage changes in the oscillation circuits I and II, caused during the entry of a cop carrier (3) into the stand-by position (9) and therefore into the effective range of the HF coil (31) of the series oscillation circuit I by the secondary coil (40) arranged on the cop carrier, are recorded by a comparator (20) and are converted into a useful signal which can be utilised by the winding-station electronics (18). <IMAGE>
