The invention relates to a window or door construction comprising a frame (casing) which is provided with a pane of glass whose dimensions match or exceed the external dimensions of the frame. The glass pane is attached against the outward-facing side of a frame by means of adhesives. Over a desired width from its edge, the glass pane is provided with a surface layer. The surface layer preferably consists of an enamel layer. This design is also eminently suitable for double glazing. The method for applying a surface layer near the periphery of a glass pane initially comprises application of the enamel powder with the aid of screen-printing, after which the glass pane is heated, causing the enamel powder to fuse, after which the pane is cooled.
