The method for generating the appliqué data comprises steps, in which data for the composite contour of the two appliqué attachments when they are overlapped by means of the predetermined overlapping edge are entered, overlapping-edge data are entered separately for the lower and the upper appliqué attachment, individual contour data for the lower and the upper appliqué attachment are generated from the composite contour data and the separate overlapping-edge data, and embroidery data for the lower and the upper appliqué attachment are generated respectively for the lower and the upper appliqué attachment according to the individual contour data.
