PURPOSE:To provide the process for production of the liquid crystal display device which prevents the destruction of the elements on substrates and shorting of electrodes and the generation of a line disconnection by static electricity to the generation of the static electricity on a substrate by a rubbing treatment stage in an oriented film forming stage, thereby eliminating the spot defects and line defects of the display device. CONSTITUTION:This process for production has a stage for forming the driving elements 14, pixel electrodes 15 connected to the driving elements 14 and electrode lines connected to the driving elements 14 on the surface of the first substrate 12, a stage for forming a common electrode 17 on the surface of the second substrate 13, a stage for forming an oriented film 18 on the common electrode 17 of the second substrate 13 and subjecting this film to the rubbing treatment, a stage for arranging the first substrate 12 and the second substrate 13 opposite to each other with a prescribed spacing maintained therebetween and injecting liquid of an isotropic state of a liquid crystal material 11 heated to the phase transition temp. or above between both substrates and a stage for causing phase transition from the isotropic phase to the liquid crystal state while slowly cooling this liquid.
