PURPOSE:To provide a semiconductor optical device which selects precisely one or more wavelengths instantaneously at the same time, converts and input light signal to a light signal of the selected wavelength, and output it. CONSTITUTION:Fan-shaped slab waveguides 13A, 13B are installed on both ends of an array waveguides 16. A plurality of gain waveguides 17 are connected with a focal surface 14A of one side slab waveguide 13A. A saturable absorption waveguide 20 having a saturable absorption region is connected with a focal surface 14B of the other side slab waveguide 13B via a passive waveguide 19A and an input-output gain waveguide 18B.
