The method involves controlling a drive device (22) in a working cycle such that a pushing tool (21) is operated when a food product is detected at the rear of cutting tools (11A-11D) in a cycle portion of the food product, so as to release the food product. The drive device is controlled in another cycle portion such that the cutting tools are guided against the front side of the food product for cutting the food product into food slices, where the food product is supported by elastic elements (34J-34L).
