<p>PURPOSE: To provide an air bag module in which a tubular inflator is used on the driver side of vehicles. CONSTITUTION: An air bag module 10 uses a module housing, a cushion 18, and a retaining bracket. An inflator 12 is placed in a slotted section of the module housing, and a diffuser 26 extends from the module housing directly into a module at a right angle. A retaining ring has raised portions in the center thereof to match the raised portion of the module housing, has holes in the raised portions, and has tabs which pass through holes in the cushion and the module housing. The cushion 18 can match the radius of the module housing in the raised portion. The retaining bracket holds the inflator 12 at a prescribed position, and includes cover retaining brackets.</p> |
