摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent interference between adjacent optical pulses, and enable an optical pulse train having a short pulse interval to be obtained by providing a polarizing rotary section in one of asymmetric arms for delaying one of branched optical pulses. CONSTITUTION:An optical pulse train incident from an input optical wave director 6 is divided into two equals in a 3dB optical coupler 120a and travels to two asymmetric arm optical wave guides 10 and 11. Among optical pulse trains travelling to the waveguides 10 and 11, trains travelling through the waveguide 11 pass a half-wavelength plate 13 as a polarizing rotary section, thereby causing polarizing surface to rotate. Also, the optical pulse trains travelling through the waveguide 11 are delayed by a time T, due to an optical path length difference between the waveguides 10 and 11, and synthesized through the coupler 12b. Consequently, optical pulse trains having a pulse interval T are emitted from output optical waveguides 8 and 9. According to this construction, optical pulse interference does not occur, and multiplicity can be increased.
