The title compound (I) exihibits moisture-preserving activities, good surfactant activities, and living body cells-protecting effect from injurious active oxygen. Thus, vitamin E (II; A=-CH2CH(CH3)- or -CH=C(CH3)-; B=-CH3; m=inter 1-3) and ethylene oxide are reacted at 140-160 deg.C in the presence of catalyst such as NaOH, KOH, or NaOCH3 to give title compound (I). The vitamin E ester is one of vitamin E acetate, vitamin E succinate, vitamin E palmitate or vitamin E rinolate.
